Building on last year’s stream crossing inventory pilot project, CARPC is partnering with Trout Unlimited to complete a Road-Stream Crossing Inventory and Assessment for all of Dane County. This project, funded by a Pre-Disaster Flood Resilience Grant from Wisconsin Emergency Management, will generate comprehensive road-stream crossing inventories for Dane County’s rural townships to support town governments as they pursue structure rehabilitation or reconstruction at flood prone sites.
CARPC and Trout Unlimited staff have already been busy in the field this spring collecting information on structure condition, flood vulnerability, and aquatic passability at road-stream crossings across the county. CARPC is primarily focusing on the eastern portion of the county while Trout Unlimited is collecting data in the Driftless portion to the west.

We are also happy to announce the addition of four technicians to our 2025 Dane County project team! Isaac Porter and Kai Farrey with CARPC and Brodie Trollop and Carter McShane with Trout Unlimited participated in a training led by the Wisconsin DNR and Trout Unlimited last month, creating a valuable opportunity for information sharing and collaboration.
The information collected through this effort will provide communities with a more complete understanding of their infrastructure and bring awareness to the importance of flood resilience. CARPC staff presented the project to town governments at the Dane County Towns Association meeting in May. Project information is also available on our new Road-Stream Inventory and Assessment website and fact sheet.
