Regional Trends 2016 – Agriculture
Continuous blocks of agricultural land, farmland or forest land use trends, conversion of ag land to developed use.
The Regional Planning Commission releases quarterly updates on trends in the Capital Region on the subjects of: population and housing, economic development, environmental resources, and agricultural resources.
This publication focuses on trends in agricultural operations and land use, including Framework for Change indicators from the Capital Region Sustainable Communities initiative. The region continues losing farmland to development, resulting in fragmentation of the agricultural landscape at the urban fringe. The good news is that the rate of loss have slowed. Gaps in knowledge make it difficult to assess trends over time, and more research is needed.
