In January, CARPC joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison and nearly 30 other organizations as a founding member of the Midwest Climate Collaborative. The Midwest Climate Collaborative (MCC) is a cross-sector collaboration of key organizations throughout the Midwest working together to facilitate the development of a coherent Midwestern response to the climate crisis through acceleration of climate action, knowledge, and leader development.
An overarching goal of CARPC’s Regional Development Framework is the community-established priority to promote growth that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and fosters community resilience to climate change. CARPC sees participation in the Midwest Climate Collaborative as a key part of helping the region reach that goal.
The 2022 Midwest Climate Summit on January 28th marked the official launch of the Midwest Climate Collaborative. The Summit featured remarks from White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy and Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, among others. The Summit included highlights of climate leadership across the Midwest, an overview of initial MCC projects, introduction of the MCC Director, Heather Navarro, and additional background for organizations interested in getting involved.
Membership in the collaborative is open to universities, NGOs, midwestern state or local governments, and corporations. Local governments and organizations in our region are encouraged to consider joining this initiative. For more information on the Midwest Climate Collaborative, please see the MCC website.
