Remarkable Trees of Dane County
The Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC), the State Cartographer’s Office, the Dane County Tree Board, and the Urban Tree Alliance teamed up to create a new interactive mapping tool that highlights some of the most historic and monumental trees in our region: Remarkable Trees of Dane County
Thanks to a grant from the Bock Foundation, this tool is now available for everyone to view catalogued trees and add their own to the map. Users can pinpoint a tree’s location, upload a picture, and add estimated measurements or condition, along with any other comments. No personal information is posted to the website.
Trees can be added to the map due to their historic, cultural or personal significance, unique shape or form, impressive size, or for being a perfect example of their species. There is also an “I can’t put my finger on it” category for trees whose specialness defies classification.
These remarkable trees are more than just part of our landscape—they provide essential environmental and economic benefits, stand as living witnesses to history, and inspire us with their unique forms and enduring presence.
So let us know about a tree that holds special meaning to you, and explore the remarkable ones already featured on the map!
