LWCA Awarded DNR Surface Water Grant

We are excited to announce that the Lake Waubesa Conservation Association (LWCA) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Wisconsin DNR to create a Comprehensive Lake Management Plan. CARPC will partner with LWCA to lead the planning effort, which represents a critical first step in creating a long-term vision for improving and protecting Lake Waubesa.

LWCA has identified five main goals for the Lake Waubesa LMP:

  • Increase community engagement and build organizational capacity
  • Improve water clarity
  • Assist the DNR and Dane County in managing invasive aquatic plants, organisms, and fish
  • Restore and protect the habitat along lake shorelines and Waubesa wetlands
  • Reduce stormwater runoff

The process will be guided by a steering committee that includes representatives from the LWCA board, CARPC, the Town of Dunn, the Village of McFarland, the Clean Lakes Alliance, Friends of Waubesa Wetlands, and the City of Fitchburg. Additional committee members may be identified during the planning process.
