Black Earth Creek, Flood Resilience|

The Black Earth Creek Watershed Association (BECWA) is hosting a community event to celebrate the creek and mark completion of the sign project on Saturday, June 26, from 10AM to 2PM behind The Shoe Box, 1314 Canal St., in Black Earth. CARPC and local organizations active in restoring and protecting Black Earth Creek will be on hand to provide information about those efforts and how to get involved. The event is free and open to the public.

BECWA and its community partners are installing informational signs along the stream in Cross Plains, Black Earth, and Mazomanie that talk about the stream as an exceptional natural resource, the major challenges that it faces, and protection efforts. One sign (shown below), installed at H.M. Zander Community Nature Park in Cross Plains, describes how green infrastructure is being used to improve water quality and increase flood resilience.

BECWA is one of the many Steering Committee members for the Black Earth Creek Watershed Green Infrastructure Planning project, led by CARPC. The project team is working together with communities of the Black Earth Creek Watershed to reduce flood impacts, improve water quality, and provide recreational, economic, and ecological benefits to the watershed using green infrastructure strategies.
