Jason Valerius, CARPC’s Executive Director, is continuing his efforts of meeting with each of our commissioners. Recently, he got to know CARPC Commissioner Kris Hampton.
Kris has seen plenty of changes in the region throughout his 30 years of service on the Town of Cottage Grove’s Town Board and his 10 years as a CARPC Commissioner. The Town had six active dairy farms 30 years ago and will be down to just one this year, leading them to discuss the pressures on farmland and the limits on consuming that land for development.
Jason was impressed with the Town of Cottage Grove’s recently adopted long-term boundary agreement with the City of Madison, which provides predictability to the City, the Town, and landowners about when and how annexation and development can proceed along their shared border. Kris took the lead in initiating this agreement, leveraging his relationship-building skills and expertise.
Thank you to Kris and all of CARPC’s Commissioners for your help in strengthening the region by engaging communities through planning, collaboration, and assistance.
