2025 DNR Regular Urban Forestry Grants
The Wisconsin DNR Regular Urban Forestry Grants program is now accepting applications for 2025. Regular grants are competitive cost-share grants of up to $25,000 designed to support new, innovative projects that will develop sustainable urban and community forestry programs, not to subsidize routine forestry activities.

Eligible project components include, but are not limited to:
- tree inventory or canopy assessment;
- urban forestry strategic or management plan;
- urban forest pest response, storm response or risk reduction plan;
- tree ordinance development/revision;
- public outreach;
- staff or volunteer training;
- tree board or volunteer group development; and
- tree planting, maintenance and removal.
Past Awards

Between 2021-2024, 15 Dane County municipalities received DNR Urban Forestry Grants totaling $1,668,461. Among Dane County municipalities, 87.5% of cities, 30% of villages and 3% of towns have been awarded an Urban Forestry Grant in the last three years, with many communities receiving multiple grant awards during this period. We encourage all communities to pursue grant funding to support efforts that protect and expand our regional tree canopy.
