Municipal Wastewater Management

Municipal wastewater is generated every time a toilet, sink, dishwasher, or washing machine is used. In Urban or Limited Service Areas, sewerage systems collect this wastewater for treatment at one of the 15 municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) in our region. These facilities use a combination of physical and biological treatment processes designed to reduce solids and organic pollutants, cleaning the water to meet water quality standards prior to discharging it to our streams. One of the CARPC's roles as a water quality planning agency is to assist municipal wastewater treatment facilities with their planning to make sure that these facilities are properly sized and designed to protect water quality as well as to reduce costs to units of government and their rate payers. The purpose of this web page is to provide current information on the plans for the municipal wastewater treatment plants in our region.
